What is Careers Champion?

Careers Champion is a periodical award recognising the great work done by individuals across the Careers sector. Contests will run every few months (via the Careers Champion website) with fantastic prizes for the winners and nominees. Potential Careers Champions can be nominated during the competition window and shortlisted nominees can gain votes towards winning the top prize in our finalists’ online poll.

Who is the competition open to?

The aim of Careers Champion is to cast the net far and wide. The remit for nominations is simple - people who are doing fantastic Careers work that should be recognised. This can be Higher Education Professionals; Careers writers; Consultants, Advisers and Co-ordinators; Leaders; Head of Careers and Teachers or Careers Innovators to give a few examples.

Do nominees need to be part of a body or hold certain qualifications?

No. This is not a professional body award just simply a recognition of great careers work. We would welcome nominations from qualified and non-qualified potential Careers Champions. If someone you know or work with is doing fantastic unsung Careers work then we want to hear from you. Although run by Working Adviser, there is absolutely no requirement to be a Working Adviser member to be involved

What are the prizes on offer?

We have some fantastic prizes on offer for our winner and finalists.

The Careers Champion packages will once again top £1000 per competition with amazing prizes for the winner as well as the coveted trophy. The Runner-up, third place and remaining finalists will also receive some great prizes. See nomination page for details.

When will the Careers Champion competitions take place?

There will be three Careers Champion Award competitions for 2020. The first one with take place in Ja/Feb, the second in June/July and the third in October/Nov 2018. This year will see our 12th, 13th and 14th Careers Champions crowned.

How does the Careers Champion competition work?

Potential candidates are put forward via the nomination form - available during the submission period (on the nomination page). From that pool of nominations, a shortlist of six nominees will be compiled by the Working Adviser team. The six nominees for each competition will be published ahead of an online public vote. The winner will be the nominee with the most votes when the public poll finally closes. Full details on the poll opening and closing dates/times will appear on the ‘Vote Now’ page.

Why should I get involved?

Careers work is demanding and often undervalued. There are many fantastic people out there making a difference throughout this sector. This is your chance to gain recognition for someone you might know or admire.

How do I nominate someone to be a Careers Champion?

Simply complete the nomination form on the ‘Nominate’ page when each competition is live. You will be able to provide us with some details of the person you are nominating and also have an additional 600 characters to describe why you feel they are a worthy candidate.

How many people can I nominate?

Each person is restricted to just one Careers Champion nomination per contest. Don't worry if you have someone else you want to put forward - contests will run regularly through the year.

Can a person be nominated for more than one competition?

Yes. The same person can be nominated up to 3 times during any 12 month period. Should that person become a shortlisted nominee for any competition, however, they can no longer be nominated for any future competitions.

How does the voting work?

The six nominees for each competition will be placed in an online poll which is open to the public. Anyone is free to cast an online vote for their preferred Careers Champion during any competition.

Why do I need to submit contact details when nominating?

We need contact details for the nominee (and the person nominating) for a number of reasons. Firstly, to inform the individual that they are successfully short-listed etc. Also, to check that candidates and nominators are who they say they are and are eligible for the award. Finally, we need the information for the distribution of any Careers Champion and nominee prizes.
